Göteborg University, like other universities in Sweden and abroad, is an important centre in its region, western Sweden, with a population of 1.8 million. Together with other institutions in the area, the University is responsible for providing higher education.
In recent years there has been increasing cooperation between the University and other institutions of higher education in the region concerning both research education and research itself. Research findings are frequently of international interest and communicated to the world, at the same time as they may be of central importance for the region’s population and economy. We hope that a University of West Sweden will be developed, in the form of a major network bringing together all the combined resources of the higher education institutions in western Sweden.
There are clear links between education and research and the economic growth of a region. Where there is a university or a similar institution this in itself generates growth, new business concepts and confidence in the future.
