Andersson Rune
RUNE ANDERSSON
Born: 1951
Title of doctoral thesis: Giant cell arteritis: immunopathology, long-term corticosteroid treatment and mortality
Rune Andersson was born on the island of Dyrön and has a Master of Science in Medicine from the University of Gothenburg as well as specialist degrees in infectious diseases, internal medicine and general practise. He obtained a doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in 1988, became associate professor in 1992 and Adjunct Professor of Infectious Diseases in 2002. Since 2005 he is Visiting Professor in Urumqi, China. On 1 September 2010 he was appointed Professor of Global Health at the Institute of Biomedicine, a position that has been linked to an assignment as Senior Physician in hospital hygiene at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital since 1 January 2011.

Bergö Martin
MARTIN BERGÖ
Martin Bergö was born in 1970 and grew up in Karlstad, Lerum and Gothenburg where he attended Samskolan and Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet before moving on to the university level. From 1991 to 1998 he studied Biology, Chemistry and Medicine at Umeå University, and he obtained a doctorate in 1998 after presenting his doctoral thesis Regulation of lipoprotein lipase in adipose tissue. A search for the molecular mechanism. From 1998 to 2004 he worked as a researcher at the University of California San Francisco, USA. He became Docent (Reader) in 2005 and was appointed Professor of Molecular Medicine on 1 March 2010 at the University of Gothenburg.

Bernhardt Peter
PETER BERNHARDT
Born: 1966
Title of doctoral thesis: Pharmacokinetics and dosimetry of radiolabelled octreotide for tumour therapy
Peter Bernhardt was born in Gothenburg and has a Master of Science in Medical Physics from the University of Gothenburg. He obtained his doctorate in 2000 after completing a doctoral thesis on treatments with radionuclide-labelled somatostatin analogues. He became Docent (Reader) in 2005 and has worked as researcher at the Sahlgrenska Academy and Senior Medical Physicist at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. On 1 June he was appointed Professor of Radiation Physics at the Institute of Clinical Sciences.

Gerhardsson Lars S
LARS GERHARDSSON
Born: 1952
Title of doctoral thesis: Trace elements in tissues of deceased smelter workers – relationship to mortality
Lars Gerhardsson was born in Stockholm and obtained his medical degree at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm in 1977. He became a specialist in Internal Medicine in 1984 and in Occupational Medicine in 1985. He received his Ph.D. in 1986 and became an Associate Professor of Medicine in 1988. After a period as Visiting Researcher 1991-1992 at the Division of Allergy-Immunology, Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, he worked as Chief Physician at the department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University Hospital in Lund from 1997-2002. He then became Chief Physician at Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. On August 1st 2010, he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Gothenburg University, with focus on chemical and physical health risks. The appointment is linked to a position as Chief Physician at Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Hartelius Lena
LENA HARTELIUS
Born: 1957
Title of doctoral thesis: Perceptual and acoustic analysis of dysarthria associated with multiple sclerosis
Lena Hartelius was born in Gothenburg and obtained a Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Gothenburg in 1983. She earned her doctorate in 1997 and held a post-doctoral position at the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, in 2000. She became Docent (Reader) in Speech and Language Pathology at the University of Gothenburg in 2003. Her research is centred around speech and communication difficulties due to various types of neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and stroke. In April 2010 she was appointed Professor of Speech and Language Pathology at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. The appointment is linked to a position as Speech and Language Pathologist at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Holgersson Jan
JAN HOLGERSSON
Born: 1961
Title of doctoral thesis: Blood group ABH and related glycosphingolipid antigens. Structural elucidation, tissue distribution and aspects of their role as target antigens in allo- and xenotransplantation
Jan Holgersson was born in Gothenburg and obtained a Master of Science in Medicine from the University of Gothenburg in 1986. He earned his doctorate from the Institute of Medical Biochemistry in 1991. After holding a three-year post-doctoral position at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, he completed a research internship (forskar-AT) at the Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge and at Karolinska Institutet. He became Docent (Reader) in Molecular Immunology at Karolinska Institutet in 1998 and specialist in Clinical Immunology in 2009. His work aims to improve the diagnostics and treatment in connection with organ and cell transplants by studying the rejection process at the cellular and molecular levels. On 1 August 2010 he was appointed Professor of Transplant Immunology at the Institute of Biomedicine. The appointment is linked to a position as Senior Physician at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Isaksson Mats
MATS ISAKSSON
Born: 1961
Title of doctoral thesis: Methods of measuring radioactivity in the environment
Mats Isaksson was born in Bromölla and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Physics from Lund University in 1997. He is a licensed medical physicist and became Docent (Reader) in Radiation Physics in 2000. Most of his work concerns the readiness to deal with situations where people and the environment may become exposed to radiation. His research is centred around measurement of radioactive substances in people and the environment. On 18 October he was appointed Professor of Radiation Physics at the Department of Radiation Physics, which is part of the Institute of Clinical Sciences.

Johansson Guðmundur
GUDMUNDUR JOHANSSON
Born: 1960
Title of doctoral thesis: Growth hormone replacement in growth hormone deficient adults
Gudmundur Johannsson was born in Reykjavik and obtained a Master of Science in Medicine from the University of Iceland in 1986. He became a specialist in Internal Medicine in 1993 and in Endocrinology in 1994. He earned his doctorate at the University of Gothenburg in 1997 and was appointed Docent (Reader) in Endocrinology in 1998. He worked as a Visiting Professor at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, from 2001 to 2003. In 2003 he became a Senior Lecturer and on 1 February 2010 he was appointed Professor of Endocrinology at the Institute of Medicine. The appointment is linked with a position as Chief Physician at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Karlsson Jón
JÓN KARLSSON
Title of doctoral thesis: Chronic lateral instability of the ankle joint: a clinical, radiological and experimental study
Jón Karlsson was born in Iceland and obtained his doctorate in 1989 from the University of Gothenburg. He has headed the Department of Orthopaedics since 2001, and is a member of the board of ISAKOS (International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine) as well as Chair of its scientific committee. He is former Chair of YFA (Professional Associations for Physical Activity) and of SIMF (Swedish Society of Sports Medicine). He is also Editor-in-Chief of Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy. He has authored a large number of scientific articles and has co-authored numerous books, including Motions- och idrottsskador och deras rehabilitering. On 1 December 2010 he was appointed Professor of Orthopaedics with a specialisation in Sports Traumatology at the Institute of Clinical Sciences. The professorship is linked to a position as Chief Physician at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Lindahl Per
PER LINDAHL
Born: 1967
Title of doctoral thesis: Platelet-derived growth factor functions in vivo
Per Lindahl was born in Uppsala and has studied Medicine at Uppsala University. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in 1998. Following a short post-doctoral appointment at the Cardiovascular Research Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA, he started a research team at the University of Gothenburg. Besides being a researcher, he teaches Molecular Biology and Developmental Biology to medical and pharmacology students. He became qualified for appointment as Docent (Reader) in 2007 and was appointed Professor of Cardiovascular Developmental Biology at the Institute of Biomedicine in May 2010.

Marschall Hanns-Ulrich
HANNS-ULRICH MARSCHALL
Born: 1954
Title of doctoral thesis: Conjugation of Bile Acids with N-Acetylglucosamine
Hanns-Ulrich Marschall was born in Ibbenbüren, Germany, and has studied medicine and chemistry at the universities in Düsseldorf and Aachen. After receiving specialist training at the university hospitals in Tübingen and Aachen, he became Chief Physician and specialist in Internal Medicine at the University Hospital in Aachen in 1992 and specialist in Gastroenterology in 1995. He became Docent (Reader) in Internal Medicine at RWTH Aachen in 1993 and Associate Professor in 1998. He visited the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB) at Karolinska Institutet as research fellow 1986-1988, where he defended his Thesis in 1994. After a post-doctoral position at MBB 1995-1996, he worked as Chief Physician at the Karolinska University Hospital 1996-2010, and became Docent (Reader) in 1998 and Adjunct Professor in Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2007. In May 2010 he was appointed Professor of Clinical Hepatology at the Institute of Medicine.

Millqvist Eva S
EVA MILLQVIST
Born: 1949
Title of doctoral thesis: Effects of air temperature and strong scents in patients with asthma and asthma-like symptoms
Eva Millqvist was born in Stockholm and obtained a Master of Science in Medicine from Karolinska Institutet in 1974. She became a specialist in Internal Medicine and Allergology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in 1983 and earned her doctorate in Allergology from the University of Gothenburg in 1996. She became Docent (Reader) in Allergology in 2001 and Chief Physician at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in 2009. On 1 August 2010 she was appointed Adjunct Professor of Clinical Allergology at the Institute of Medicine.

Olausson Håkan
HÅKAN OLAUSSON
Born: 1965
Title of doctoral thesis: Human tactile directional sensibility
Håkan Olausson was born in Trollhättan and has a Master of Science in Medicine from the University of Gothenburg. He is also a specialist in Clinical Neurophysiology. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in 1995 and worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at McGill University, Montreal, Canada from 1998 to 2000. He became Docent (Reader) in Physiology at the University of Gothenburg in 2004. In 2010 he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Clinical Neurophysiology at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. The appointment is linked to a position as Chief Physician at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Rudin Anna
ANNA RUDIN
Born: 1961
Title of doctoral thesis: Colonization factors of enterotoxigenic Esherichia coli: cross-reactive and protective epitopes
Anna Rudin was born in Lund and obtained a Medical degree from the University of Gothenburg in 1985. In 1996 she earned her doctorate, also at the University of Gothenburg, and then held a post-doctoral position at TVW Telethon Institute for Child Heath Research, Perth, Australia, for one year. She became Docent (Reader) in Immunology in 2001 and Specialist in Rheumatology in 2009. On 1 February 2010 she was appointed Adjunct Professor of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research at the Institute of Medicine.

Rydmark Martin

Born: 1950
Title of doctoral thesis: An ultrastructural morphometric analysis of the node of Ranvier in peripheral myelinated nerve fibres of the adult cat
Martin Rydmark was born in Sundsvall and has a Master of Science in Medicine from the Karolinska Institutet. He obtained his doctorate from Karolinska Institutet in 1982 and became a Docent (Reader) in Anatomy at the University of Gothenburg in 1985. On 15 November 2010 he was appointed Professor of Medical Informatics and Computer-Assisted Education at the Institute of Biomedicine.

Simrén Magnus
MAGNUS SIMRÉN
Born: 1966
Title of doctoral thesis: Irritable Bowel Syndrome–Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects
Magnus Simrén was born in Falköping, has a Master of Science in Medicine from the University of Gothenburg and is a Specialist Doctor in Internal Medicine as well as in Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in 2001, served as a Visiting Researcher at Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven, Belgium, in 2002 and became Docent (Reader) in Medicine, specialising in Gastroenterology, at the University of Gothenburg in 2004. Since January of 2011 he holds, as decided by the Swedish Research Council, a research appointment in the field of Molecular Gastroenterology. On 1 December 2009 he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Medical Gastroenterology at the Institute of Medicine. The appointment is linked to a position as Chief Physician at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

GERD SÄLLSTEN
Born: 1952
Title of doctoral thesis: Occupational exposure to inorganic mercury–exposure assessment and elimination kinetics
Gerd Sällsten was born in Partille and obtained a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg in 1975, a degree in Occupational Hygiene at the National Institute for Working Life, Stockholm, in 1983 and earned a PhD in Medical Science at the University of Gothenburg in 1994. She became Docent (Reader) in Occupational Hygiene in 1999 and on 1 February 2010 she was appointed Adjunct Professor of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene at the Institute of Medicine.

Tengvall Pentti
PENTTI TENGVALL
Born: 1951
Title of doctoral thesis: Titanium-hydrogen peroxide Interaction with Reference to Biomaterial Applications
Pentti Tengvall was born in Kemijärvi, Finland, and has a Master of Science in Scientific Subjects Education from Linköping University. He obtained his doctorate in 1989, also from Linköping University, became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biomaterials in 1990, and was appointed Docent (Reader) in 1993 and University Lecturer in 1994. He served as Professor of Applied Physics and Biomaterials in Linköping from 2000 to 2008 and worked as Visiting Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg from 2008 to 2010. On 1 August 2010 he was appointed Professor of Biomaterials at the Institute of Clinical Sciences.

Wennberg Ann-Marie
ANN-MARIE WENNBERG
Born: 1956
Title of doctoral thesis: Basal cell carcinoma–new aspects of diagnosis and treatment
Ann-Marie Wennberg was born in Gothenburg and obtained a Master of Science in Medicine at the University of Gothenburg in 1984 and then became a specialist in Dermato-Venereology. She earned her doctorate at the Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and became Docent (Reader) in 2005. She heads a research group with a focus on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, and since 2009 she is the Director of Area 2 at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. On 1 April 2010 she was appointed Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Clinical Sciences.
